Cherry on Top

Last summer colored denim became all the rage, and I ate it up, hook, line and sinker. So you can imagine my relief that colored denim is forecasted to be hot again this year. I especially love my red pants. I find they’re just as versatile as blue jeans because I pair them with just about everything. They look great teamed up with booties and black, but I know come spring a white tee and sandals will also make them shine.
Tutu
TNA Chambray Shirt, Tutu – Made by Mikki, Club Monaco Necklace, Manolo Blahnik Pumps, Yves Saint Laurent Clutch, Hermes Watch, David Yurman Bracelet
When I was dreaming up the window for a collaboration with Coco + Violet back in December I knew I wanted to incorporate whimsical tutus. While I was drafting them out I decided to secure a lining to make them wearable after the fact. I’m so glad I had the foresight to do so, because wearing one has been so much fun. To offset the grandeur of the skirt, I paired it with my favorite chambray shirt. I like the tea length version of this skirt, but also think it would look great a few inches shorter as well. The fabulous thing about tulle is that you can shorten it instantly by pulling out your scissors and cutting it to the desired length. I can’t wait to see what it will look like come summer paired with a white tank and bright chunky necklace.
Black and White Cookies
I’ve heard so much about the infamous black and white cookie, and thus far, I have yet to properly taste one. I decided to change that by whipping up a batch the other day. I used this recipe from the Baked Explorations cookbook, and the cookies tasted every little bit what was promised to me. I was most intrigued by the pledge of the cookies being ‘cake-like’, which seemed too good to be true. They had barely been iced for seconds when I was forced decided to start tasting, and I don’t think it’s appropriate to let you in on how many I had. I know ladies, be jealous of my self-control. They were just that delicious.
Black and White
Joie Top, Alice + Olivia Skirt, Theory Blazer (similar here), Wolford Nylons, Yves Saint Laurent Heels, Dolce & Gabbana Handbag (similar here), Alden Rae Bracelet
I’ve been seeing black and white everywhere as of late, and since this winter weather seems to be sticking around, I thought I’d give it a go myself. The great thing about this look is the probability of your closet already housing black and white options. It creates a great canvas to have a stand out accessory such as a colored handbag or heel. If you prefer to keep the clothing and accessories sans color, you can add a bright red or pink lip. Until spring officially hits next week month, I’ll be sporting my feminine black and white pieces nonstop.
One Piece, Three Ways – Varsity Jacket
Rag & Bone Varsity Jacket, 212 Dress, Yves Saint Laurent Pumps, T by Alexander Wang Tee, Paige Premium Denim, Miu Miu Boots, BCBC Blouse, Rag & Bone Jeans, Manolo Blahnik Pumps
There are certain pieces that you buy where the justification to yourself is that you can wear it with anything, anywhere. I thought I would take a new piece that I recently purchased, with that exact rationalization, and show you how I plan on styling it come spring. I’ve been seeing varsity jackets everywhere lately, but I knew this one in all its floral bodied, leather-armed gorgeousness, would be the one to call my closet home.
Look One – Dressed Up Glam
I love the idea of throwing the varsity jacket over anything, including the little black dress. I can see the jacket going well with everything from a sequin dress and strappy shoes, to a long beachy number with espadrilles.
Outfit 2 – Casual Edge
The varsity jacket works seamlessly with an edgy look like this one. Moto boots, torn jeans, and a black tee and this ensemble is ready for action. Feel free to play with various washes of denim paired with solid colored or neutral tees.
Outfit 3 – Date Night
The options for this look are truly endless. The best part is that most of us have a version of this outfit currently in our closets, making it effortless to throw on the jacket while headed out the door. To change it up, pair your cropped trousers with a blouse and pumps underneath the varsity jacket.
