White-After-Labor-Day-131

Earlier this week Jaclyn of Sharing My Sole tagged me to share five things about myself that may not be known to my readers.  I’ve loved reading about other blogger’s fun facts, so I’m sharing my own below.

  1. I’ve only had stitches once in my life.  I was five and thought it would be clever to scale my brother’s dresser by pulling out the drawers and using them as stairs.  I still have the scar.
  2. I have asthma.  It’s well managed but created havoc in my earlier years.
  3. Due to point #2 I wore a fanny pack for many years.  But it was neon and super cool.  It housed my inhalers, thus the need to wear it 24/7.
  4. I have a closet similar to Monica’s secret closet in Friends.  It’s where all the junk goes to die, and I would be mortified for anyone to see it.  At least twice a year I pull everything out, rearrange it, and shove it back in.
  5. I had a pet gerbil when I was younger.  There’s photo evidence of me loving, playing and cuddling it.  You couldn’t pay me to touch a gerbil these days, they actually make me squeamish in the pet store.  I still can’t believe we got that one past my mom.

Okay, next up let’s here from the lovely ladies Kate, Sheri-Ann and Lisa!

Denim-Vest-12

I’m the type of person who can brilliantly look into someone else’s wardrobe and determine what must go.  When it comes to my own closet, however, I become emotional and desperately cling to everything in sight.  So when I discovered that I had four three jean jackets hanging in my closet, the thought of getting rid of one of them started heart palpitations.  Luckily, I’ve been eying a denim vest as of late, and it hit me, why not make my own.  This is an incredibly simple and satisfying DIY, that gives new life and purpose into a piece that may be lacking its past luster.

Simply cut off the sleeves of your jacket

Sew down the seam, following the path of the stitching that is already there.

If proceeding without a sewing machine, use a hot glue gun to secure the underside of the seam.  If your jean jacket is a more rustic style, don’t worry about securing the seams as a frayed edge may look more appropriate.

Neutral Affair 1

Vince Sweater (similar here), Vince Blazer, Rag & Bone Denim, Michael Kors Trench (similar here), Prada Booties (similar here or here), Falerio Sarti Scarf, Celine Handbag

The older I get the more appreciation I have for the neutral pieces in my closet.  I’m always able to mix and match and throw something together as I run out the door.  Don’t get me wrong, I love a pop of color too, but when it comes to investing, you’ll never go wrong with a neutral.  The best part is that I can layer to the sky and never have to worry if one shade is offending another.  Perfect for this Alberta weather that can’t seem to make up it’s mind.

Spring Snow Storm 7

Aritzia Dress (last seen here), Michael Kors Fur Vest (similar here), Burberry Coat (similar here), J Crew Tights, Burberry Booties (similar here or here), Celine Handbag, Tiffany Earrings

The old adage is supposed to go, April showers bring May flowers, but here in Calgary, it’s more snow than showers.  Fresh off a fabulous few days in California for the LuckyFABB Fashion and Beauty Blog Conference, the beautiful sunny weather is already a distant memory.  Instead of looking at the negative, I’m keeping it positive and loving that I get a few one last chance to wear my fur and booties.  I’ll be putting the winter goods away and pulling out my bins of spring and summer this week.  I may leave a parka or two out, just in case.

Buttermilk-Waffles-12

One of my most favorite things to do on the weekend is to sleep-in and do brunch.  So when my girlfriends were visiting from the west coast a couple of weekends ago, it only made sense to put on a pot of coffee, blare the tunes and whip up a big batch of waffles.  I found this recipe for Old-Fashioned Buttermilk Waffles and it did not disappoint.  You can easily elevate your waffle brunch experience through toppings.  I like to put out a variety of berries, along with chocolate and peanut butter chips.  Drizzle some maple syrup on top and throw some Bailey’s in the coffee…why would you ever eat out again?
