Color Story

It’s always been difficult for me to combine multiple colors into an outfit. Often I’ll look in the mirror before heading out and quickly go back on my decision and take something colored off, replacing it with a sturdy neutral. But then there’s times when you just have to throw caution to the wind and own those fabulous color combos. Throwing in a black clutch or a pair of pumps helps to ground the outfit when you think you may have taken things a bit too far. At the end of the day if you end up with a fashion ‘don’t’, just remember that those photos are needed for the slideshow for your next big birthday. So wear away.

Last summer neon was all the rage, and I tepidly purchased a top or two, not wanting to over-commit to the trend. This spring neon is forecasted to be huge, and I’m jumping all in, starting with my new favorite pumps that I can describe as no other color than highlighter. These pumps could brighten the darkest of days, and I plan on wearing them all summer long. I’m convinced that the 80s never looked this good.
Sky Blue
Equipment Blouse, Paige Premium Denim, Joe Fresh Jacket (similar here or here), Rag & Bone Booties, Christian Louboutin Clutch (different color), JCrew Necklace, Michael Kors Watch, Stella & Dot Bracelet, Tiffany Earrings
It seems as though more often than not I’m tempted to describe the current weather in Calgary to justify my outfit choice. When I moved away from this city I noted how often individuals who lived here would comment on the weather. Every conversation with my parents involved a comment on the weather (insert my eye roll here). So I absolutely note the irony in the fact that I feel compelled to share with you the status of the current weather. Much like an elderly person would. I accept this, and would like to let you all know that there was a small amount of snow that fell in the city yesterday. At the end of April. In the season of spring.
Devil’s Food Layer Cake
I’ve had a craving for chocolate cake for what seems forever, so when I realized that my sister-in-law’s birthday was happening this weekend I knew I had to contribute a chocolate cake. I wanted a cake that was deliciously rich, moist all the way through, and decadently filled to the brim with chocolate. I found this recipe for Devil’s Food Layer Cake, and it did not disappoint. The only thing I would do differently next time besides having two slices would be to bring a cake with no slices previously cut out. Let’s just call that an occupational hazard, shall we.
Blazer Brilliance
Alice + Olivia Blouse, Diane von Furstenberg Skirt, Smythe Blazer(or here), Manolo Blahnik Pumps, Balenciaga Handbag (different color here and here), Michael Kors Watch, Stella & Dot Bracelet, David Yurman Bracelet
I know that I’ve already talked about my obsession with blazers this past week…but the truth is I have zero self control when it comes to these things. And in a moment of weakness, and complete support from a couple of dear girlfriends, this metallic blazer somehow ended up following me home, wrapped neatly in tissue to boot. I must note that I initially walked away the first time I tried it on. I wasn’t even considering purchasing it. But upon second review I determined how many places we could go together, of all the other pieces of clothing for this blazer to be-friend in my closet. It was completely obvious that I had overlooked it the first time. And so, this is where you can feel sorry for my man, and at the same time freely use my rationalizations to make your own sordid purchases. I promise I won’t judge.
