When fall arrives in Calgary I tend to push all other colors aside in favor of my long-standing relationship with neutrals, more specifically, black and brown. So you can imagine my excitement that while shopping around I have noticed an abundance of my favorite neutral hue of navy. What’s so fab about navy, you might ask. Well, not only does it make your complexion look flawless, it lends itself to as much versatility as it’s cousin black, while still providing the wearer with some much needed color. If you were hesitating last year, it’s definitely time to get on board with a little navy this fall season.

This time of year is always incredibly nostalgic for me, as it takes me back to all of the Septembers of my school days. What I most appreciated about this time was the idea that fall signified the start of a new year, allowing you to aspire to new goals, aspirations and achievements. While I can’t go back in time, I can relive the memories of carefully selecting my outfit, getting excited to see all of my friends and counting down the days to when summer would be upon us again.

Neon was all the rage this spring and summer, and for those of you that went out and hopped on the bandwagon, don’t fret, there are so many ways to carry neon into fall. Whether it’s work, play or family related, pairing a punch of neon with the neutrals in your closet is a fabulous way to stave off the winter blues.
Blackberry Ice Cream
Labor Day may signify the unofficial end of the summer, but as long as the weather is warm I’m tempted to make my favorite of icy treats, homemade ice cream. One of the things I miss the most when the cold weather rolls in is the seasonal fruit that only shows up in the summer. So when the berries are in season I try to keep them in my fridge at all times, and when I get a craving for a sweet treat, it just makes sense to whip up a batch of ice cream. I found this recipe for Blackberry Ice Cream, and it’s safe to say that I’ll be trying to squeeze in a few more batches while I can.

Last week I attended Holt Renfrew’s fall trend presentation where they laid out the looks for the upcoming fall season. One of my favorite trends forecasted for fall is the idea of mixing textures. Studs, prints, fur and leather, there truly is no limit this coming season. I was inspired to incorporate the texture trend for my end-of-summer fashion, and mixed lace fabric with a lace print. A few studs and a little faux fur clutch were tossed in for good measure. I can guarantee this is a look I’ll be perfecting for fall.
