For me there are weeks of sheer bliss and relief in making it through the week to the coveted day of Friday. Halloween is quickly approaching, and with it a massive To-Do list that includes everything from costume making to party prep to menu planning. I’m a procrastinator by nature, and I enjoy telling myself that it’s because I get my best work done just under the wire. Truth or not, I’m hoping this weekend will allow me to get ahead and cross off tasks on my list, all while in the comfort of my weekend uniform. On days when I’m feeling less than inspired I regroup by pulling out the pretty and relocating out of reach of my sewing machine. While this time of year is one of my favorites, it’s hard not to get caught staying in night after night, especially when the air goes from crisp to frigid and the sun sets at an unreasonably early hour. So here’s to pressuring my girlfriends to do the same, let’s say starting this weekend, shall we.

In Canada we tend to get teased for our love of denim, especially when sporting it from head to toe. But there is a comfort factor involved in throwing on a chambray shirt and some slouchy jeans that overrides the judgement. So on those mornings when getting out of bed seems daunting enough, knowing I can spend the day in the comfort of my denim is definitely a game changer. Judge all you want, at least it’s not sweat pants.

Sometimes the whole fall dressing situation can be a bit overwhelming. Layers, proportion, prints, it all comes crashing together and reaches a point where you don’t know whether you’re nailing your ensemble or have become fashion roadkill. On days when my plate is too full to worry about which layer goes under what, I pull out a pair of sleek pants, a classic blouse and showstopping pumps. I’ll be riding this look out until I’m forced to wear layers for warmth, and then, bring on the fur.
This coming weekend is Canadian Thanksgiving and I’m so looking forward to a day filled with the best of family, friends and food. I absolutely love tradition, so holidays like Thanksgiving mean so much to me. It also means that I’m a stickler for the exact same delicious menu, absolutely no changes, thankyouverymuch. But when I came across a recipe for Pumpkin Cheesecake with Gingersnap Pecan Crust, it got me thinking, that perhaps change is a good thing. So this is what I’ll be contributing to dinner this year, and I’m crossing my fingers that everyone else finds it as delicious as I did.
