The weather in Calgary has been Arctic to say the least, and it’s days weeks like these where leaving the house is equivalent to completing a leg of the Tour de France.  When it’s this cold out (let me clarify, with windchill has left it feeling like -30 degrees Celsius) you absolutely cannot sacrifice exposed skin for a cute outfit.  It also doesn’t mean you can’t look pulled together in your snow boots, parka, toques and mitts.  The upside of all of this snow and cold, it’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas.

I love being about to throw on a plaid shirt and ripped jeans, and with a little merchandising effort from your accessories create a look that’s considered anything other than ‘just jeans and a tee’.    An edgy pair of boots, a punchy handbag or a statement necklace, and all of a sudden your look is elevated and put together.  Never underestimate the power of accessories my friends, they’re such an effortless way to create multiple looks, with endless options.

With the holidays quickly approaching, so is the concept of ‘holiday dressing’.  This is what I wait all year for, truth.  Lace, fur, sparkles, glitter, I love it all, and I want to wear it all the time.  The great thing about this time of year is that you’re able to get away with playing dress up, the entire month if you like, and people just assume it’s because of the holidays.  So don’t wait until that office party, pull out the goods that spend most of their time tucked away in the closet, because you can.

This past weekend was filled with an abundance of family and friends, a trek out to Red Deer for ice hockey, a fabulous baby shower, the first of many holiday parties and an amazing amount of belly laughs.  It was the kind of weekend I love most.  I can’t believe how quickly time seems to be passing by these days, and that December is just around the corner.  This time of year is my absolute favorite, and I can’t wait to share all of my favorite things about it with all of you.

When the winter slog has settled in our city, it’s hard to get motivated to get outside in anything other than your Uggs or snow boots.  In order to shake myself out of my cold weather footwear slump, I spent the day donning my sparkly sneakers.  Because really, how can a little sparkle not get you back on track?  The best part is that they are completely practical for making my way around the city and running errands.  Oh how I love two birds, one stone.
