For the most part I tend to think that Valentine’s Day gets more hype than it necessarily deserves. But at the same time, every now and again it’s nice to let down your guard and partake in some downright cheesy romance. Whatever you’re doing, whether it’s spending an afternoon with you closest girlfriends, dinner out with your man, or time by yourself with a delicious bottle glass of wine, I wish you all an amazing day. May it be filled with stylish accents of pink and red (red wine counts).
Valentine’s Day Chocolate Covered Pretzels
I used to love Valentine’s Day as a child. I loved the act of picking out the perfect little Valentine’s cards for my friends, and heading off to school with a thick bundle of sweet nothings to deliver to my classmates and crushes. I still love sending my friends cards, letters and packages on special occasions, and I love being able to send visitors away with a little something. This Valentine’s Day I have the perfect sweet treat to deliver to your own Valentine(s). It takes no time at all to melt down some chocolate, dip your pretzels, and get as creative as you can with decorating. Sorry long distance friends, I want to say that some of this deliciousness is headed your way, but I kept having to eat pretzels that just weren’t up to par.

Lately I’ve been seeing all sorts of gorgeous tea length skirts, and when I laid my eyes on this beauty, I just knew it was meant to be. I initially held out in fear of being too short vertically challenged to pull the tea length off, but it’s all about balance. Tucking in my blouse and pairing it with a cropped jacket and sky high heels offset the longer length of the skirt. Prancing around in this outfit made me feel worthy of a Mad Men audition, a dinner party hostess, Betty Draper type, obviously.

In the midst of this ‘Polar Vortex’ that we’ve been experiencing, the weekend has arrived, giving us all a little reprieve from having to remove ourselves from our warm beds to trek into work. I sincerely hope that the weekend warms up enough to take the dogs around the block (literally, they refuse to leave the house), meet up with some lovely ladies and run along the river. While anything outdoors may seem a little hopeful, I have a long list of Oscar nominated movies to catch before the big day, and that’s an activity I can do indoors. Whatever your little selves are getting up to this weekend, I hope you stay warm and frostbite free.
One Bowl Chocolate Cake with Mocha Buttercream
Do you remember those chocolate cakes you used to find in the grocery store freezer aisle? The ones that had the piped icing on top, that were impossible to put down, and when no one was looking I you would eat straight from the packaging? On my quest to find the perfect chocolate cake recipe, this recipe for One Bowl Chocolate Cake not only left that frozen version in the dust, but it was incredibly easy to tackle, with near perfect results. I’ve made a few different versions of chocolate cakes in the past (here and here), but this one is currently topping my list for tastiness. Pairing it with the Mocha Buttercream Frosting amps up the anti and gives it a more complex flavour. It’s like having a slice of cake with your morning cup of coffee, which, given the option, who wouldn’t want that?
