While in many places it’s all ‘spring showers bring May flowers’, but here in Calgary the weather likes to keep us guessing. The first day of spring brought a fresh new layer of snow and frigid temps that allowed me to pull out the fur and coordinating winter accessories. Now it would be a complete fabrication if I said the lingering cold weather wasn’t getting to me, but I’m trying to keep a positive spin on it. At this rate spring skiing will take us right into June, and by then, I think we all know how sophisticated my aprés ski routine will be, in both ensembles and cocktails.

In our family I’ve always been the designated ‘fashion-expert’ over my older sister. I try to push her outside of her comfort zone to try new things, I rip through her closet and toss what’s expired, and inform her of what she should be purchasing for the next season. So it was with great pride that she was the one to tell me about a fab new pair of denim that I had to have. Together we went, each buying a pair of seriously amazing boyfriend jeans, celebrating with lunch after the fact. I think it’s safe to say the student may be outgrowing the teacher…love that girl.

I love the transition from winter to spring. I love clearing out my closet of the wool, long sleeve, double layered, dark-colored items and replacing them with everything light and airy. I love that while it may be too cold yet to go without a light weight coat, it’s not too frigid to get away with a pair of pumps in place of boots. The days are longer, the sun is stronger, and there’s a sense of possibility in the air. Tell me, how can you not help but to fall in love with this time of year.
Romper Round Up
Every spring an abundance of fabulous new pieces show up online and in the stores, and without a doubt it’s always the romper that catches my eye. In the past I’ve found it especially difficult to find one that fit (I have an unusually long torso for my height). This year however, these cute little playsuits are truly everywhere, in every price point, style and colour. There really is something for everyone, and I couldn’t be more excited to find the perfect one for myself. The fabulous part about these little rompers is that they take the guesswork out of getting ready. Maybe this spring, instead of donning that dress you have, why not jazz up a little jumpsuit instead?

Peanut Butter Marshmallow Squares
There are certain things I encounter every now and again that take me right back to childhood. Things like sprinklers in the summer, toboggans in the winter, and these, Peanut Butter Marshmallow Squares. I’m by no means a marshmallow loyalist, but I make an exception for the treat with the fun colours and peanut butter base. They without a doubt remind me of my mom (one of her favourites) and how she used to make them for us when we were little. I used the recipe from the Butter Baked Goods Cookbook and I never actually realized just how easy they were to whip up. It’s actually wrong that I now know just how easy they are. You can live solely off peanut butter and marshmallows, right?
