My absence in this little space of the internet comes with good reason, as I was down in Los Angeles for the Lucky FABB conference that took place last week. Not only was the weather fabulously warm, but the conference itself was informative, productive and social. It was so lovely meeting with friends old and new, and I always come away from these conferences feeling inspired and rejuvenated. Lucky for me, the weather back home had time to warm up while I was away, and it finally feels like spring is here to stay.

My closet is currently bursting at the seams with gorgeous pastel pieces that are begging to be worn once it warms up. The best I can do at this point is incorporate them into my winter wardrobe while the snow insists on sticking around. Thank goodness I’m heading out to to west for the rest of the week for a mix of work and play. If you can’t bring the warm weather to you, sometimes you have to give in and fly south to find it.

This past weekend wasn’t the poster child for spring days off. While it snowed much of the time, I made the best of it by taking in a little bit of culture in our city. I attended a fabulous play at Theatre Calgary, took in some salsa dancing at the Salsa Congress, made it up north for a little hockey, and did so with some of my favourite people. The weather is supposed to clear up, but even if it doesn’t, I’m headed down to California where the sunshine, and fact I can comfortably don short sleeves outdoors is keeping me going. Here’s to a fabulous Monday and week ahead.
Banana Chocolate Loaf
I’ve been steadily baking my way through the Butter Baked Goods cookbook, and with the weather being so cold, and noticing my bunch of bananas going downhill, it seemed appropriate to try the recipe for Banana Chocolate Loaf. I’m not typically a huge fan of sweets that incorporate fruit and/or vegetables, I mean why are you trying to sneak that health into my dessert? But when it comes to bananas and baked goods, the two go hand-in-hand, especially when there’s chocolate thrown in the mix. I know what I’ll be having with my morning, mid-morning, and afternoon cup of coffee this Friday.

I know that I’ve spent so much time on the weather lately, but it’s hard to focus on anything else when the winter has been so harsh. There were times in Vancouver where the rain would persist, relentlessly, for days on end, and slowly but surely everyone would eventually succumb to feeling a little bit blue. Even though the sun has shone down, the bitter cold has in fact, made me a little bitter. Thankfully I have a conference to LA next week, and I’m already counting down the minutes. Come on winter, enough is enough, it’s time to take your ball and go home now.
