Baby Blues
Elizabeth & James Dress (different colour here, and here), Alice + Olivia Coat (similar here), Wolford Nylons, Stuart Weitzman Boots, Agnelle Leather Gloves, Saint Laurent Handbag (different colours here, here and here), Topshop Toque
My least favourite weather element is, by far, the wind. I lived in Vancouver for a number of years, but the constant rain seems to have nothing on the blustery wind that comes through Calgary. While a gentle breeze is the perfect accessory for a photo shoot, the fierce wind that rolled in the other day brought a huge wind chill and an abundance of wardrobe malfunctions. A dress on a windy day, even the most gorgeous baby blue variety, is not the wisest idea. From now on it will be pants only when the wind is predicted above 30km/hour.
Subtle Grid
Alice + Olivia Turtleneck (similar here), J Brand Leather Pants, New Look Coat (similar here), Alexander Wang Boots, Chanel Handbag, J.Crew Earrings
The balmy weather has shifted and just like that it’s winter here in YYC. I’ve become so accustomed to the early spring weather, when the flakes fell I floundered to find something warm. Luckily I had this gorgeous grid coat waiting in the wings and it stepped up to the task. I’ve said time and again, you can never go wrong with a fabulous coat in this temperamental-temperature city.
Blazer Love
J.Crew Blouse (on sale), 7 for All Mankind Denim, SMYTHE Blazer (similar here), Christian Louboutin Pumps (similar here and here), Kate Spade Earrings, Michael Kors Watch, Tiffany Necklaces
When our winter weather is behaving as though it’s spring, where the temperature is just a touch too crisp to go sans jacket, but parkas have been shoved to the back of the closet, you call in the blazer. Office appropriate as well as casual chic, there’s nothing a classic black blazer cannot accomplish in your wardrobe. My favourite brand, by miles, is Canadian company Smythe, who has happened to be the Princess’s choice of blazer on numerous occasions. You can’t argue with that logic.
Sweaters and Leather
Helmut Lang Sweater, Rag & Bone Denim, IRO Leather Jacket, Valentino Pumps, Chanel Handbag, J.Crew Earrings
I truly can’t believe that while our friends out East are getting pummelled by the snow, we’re experiencing down-right spring weather here in YYC. Seriously, leather jackets and heels in February? Don’t pinch me because I don’t want to wake up, but what I do want is to get some early wear out of my spring pieces. The only downside is all of warm weather wear that is calling from the closets.
Length Matters
JET Shirt (similar here), 7 for All Mankind Jeans, Haute Hippie Sweater (similar here and here), Stuart Weitzman Boots, Escada Scarf, Chanel Handbag, Tiffany Earrings, Hermes Watch, David Yurman Bracelet
I used to think that due to my vertically challenged stature I couldn’t get away with a lengthy hemline. I worried I would resemble a small child playing around in their mother’s clothing. Yet I’ve discovered that is completely untrue. In fact, with some pieces, such as my checkered sweater coat, it’s quite the opposite. Long coats and sweaters not only have a striking look, they keep more of you warm in the cold months. Now how can you argue with that?
