So now that the cat is out of the bag, I can let it all hang out, literally.  I’m currently in that awkward transition phase, where my baby bump is not yet big enough for maternity clothing, yet fewer and fewer things in my closet are fitting.  Trying to get dressed in the morning leaves my closet looking like clothing road kill, where new victims that no longer fit are thrown to the ground in sheer distress.  As someone who has always been so active, slowing down due to pregnancy is definitely catching up with me.  Thankfully I know a trick or two for dressing for two, I knew I went into this industry for a reason.

There’s little that gets me more excited in the summer months than ice cream, especially when it’s homemade and even more so when local ingredients are used.  So when my parents dropped off a bag of the largest and most delicious cherries I’ve ever tasted, from a local farmer’s market, I knew I had to eat as many as I could, and then make ice cream.  I used a recipe similar to this one from the book Sweet Scoops, and wow, the mix of creamy vanilla, rich, juicy cherries and truffled chocolate was everything and more.  The recipe uses the traditional French custard form of making ice cream, and while it’s a little more intensive, the results are absolutely worth the extra effort.  Is there really anything better than ice cream in the summer months, I say not.

We’re coming into the final weekend of the legendary Calgary Stampede and while many will be crossing their fingers that their liver is still intact, my Stampede experience has been much more of the low key variety.  Taking in the rodeo and the chucks has always been tops for me, and this year a trip to Heritage Park with the littlest people in my life was also on the agenda.  I get so many questions on what to wear from locals and visitors alike, and when the weather’s nice my Stampede uniform is simple, dress and boots.  While I truly believe there’s something in everyone’s closet that can be ‘western-ed’ up, investing in a pair of authentic cowboy boots will be money well spent if you hit up stampede on a yearly basis.  I mean you never know when you’ll be called to action to help round up that cattle, right.

This past weekend was deliciously full and ridiculously wonderful.  I had a dear friend come in from Vancouver, I hosted my annual Stampede Breakfast, and we made our way down to the grounds to cheer on family in the chuckwagon races.  It’s weekends like these that make me feel unbelievably blessed and leave me wondering how I got so lucky to have so many amazing people in my life.  I wore the same dress for my stampede breakfast with my cowboy boots and hat, and got so many compliments I decided to switch out the accessories and head out for a meeting downtown.   Needless to say this number is on steady repeat.
