Rain Day Essentials
Equipment Blouse, Paige Maternity Jeans, Burberry Trench, Rag & Bone Booties, Celine Handbag, Shinola Watch
When I lived on the West Coast I became an expert in dressing for the rain. Cute rubber boots, trendy trench coats, local made umbrellas, I had it down pat. So when the rain starts coming down it doesn’t deter me from venturing outside, quite the opposite. Although it’s hard to argue that the best way to spend a rainy day is curled up in front of the fire with a good book, sometimes the freshness the rain brings about it just as refreshing for the soul.
Dress and Sneaks
Isabella Oliver Dress, RAILS Shirt (similar colour here), Converse Sneakers, Chanel Handbag, Tiffany Necklace, David Yurman Bracelet
Transitioning my wardrobe from summer to winter can prove to be difficult, and it’s even more so this year with the addition of the ‘bump’. I picked up some of these Isabella Oliver dresses that easily go from casual wear with sneakers to more dressed up duds with heels and a blazer. The best part of a body con jersey dress, aside from the comfort, is that it’s a key piece that will get you from end of summer well into fall and winter. If you don’t believe me, just wait and see, these bad boys are going to be worn out by the time I’m done with them.
Early Fall Favourites
For so many reasons fall is my favourite season of all. Pumpkin Spice Lattes, the vibrant colours of the leaves on the trees, and fall fashions, obviously. While it can be hard to make the transition from fun, flouncy summer attire to the richer hues and heavier fabrics of fall, I’ve determined that tiptoeing in stages allows you to hold on to the denial of summer ending whilst preparing for the winter ahead. I’m sharing some of my top early fall favourites that can easily go from end of summer to end of winter with a few styling adjustments.
Homemade Housecoats
It all started as a gift for my first niece, then it became my go-to baby shower present. Then I was getting requests, so I finally decided to put these little homemade housecoats on Etsy, to allow access to everyone. The story of the robe goes back to my grandmother, a talented seamstress, who not only made fabulously fashionable dresses for us grandchildren, but also made us robes growing up. There was nothing better than opening up that box and discovering a crisp, new, cozy little handmade robe. So in dedication to her, and to all the wondrous little people in my life, I’ve hand-crafted each little robe with the utmost care and love. You can check out the current selection on Etsy here. Warning, these cute and cuddly housecoats have nothing on the little people that don them.
Transitional Wear
Alice + Olivia Dress (different colour here and here), Oak + Fort Cardigan, Aquazzura Pumps (similar here, here, and here), Chanel Handbag, Shinola Watch, David Yurman Bracelet, Tiffany Bracelet
You’ll have to excuse my absence around here on the blog as of late. You see, there’s been a rather large project I’ve been undertaking for the last two years, and it’s a week or so away from completion (insert fist pump here). I promise to share details when it’s all said and done, but this week is shaping up to be a very very busy one. In the meantime I’ve been struggling with transitional wear to get me through this last little bit of summer. I know that this little bump of mine is just going to keep growing, and fall is approaching, so I absolutely refuse to purchase anything for summer. That leaves me with very limited options to don day to day. What makes it even more difficult is that 90% of my wardrobe are items that accentuate my (former) waistline. But if there’s anything I enjoy, it’s a challenge, and you’re all coming along for the ride.
