Vanilla Buttercream Cupcakes
Often times when I go to bake I look for a recipe that is equal parts delicious, equal parts fancy or unique. This means that the classics can be overlooked, and the other day when I went to make a batch of cupcakes to celebrate the little one in my belly, I almost repeated the pattern. Thankfully I took a moment to rethink the decision and decided to forego something elaborate for a classic vanilla buttercream cupcake from the Butter Baked Goods Cookbook. Let’s just say that there’s a reason this classic flavour has staying power. Now excuse me while I have another.

In all the seasons that one could be pregnant, I’m so grateful my biggest bump time will be happening in the fall and winter. This is mainly due to the abundance of gorgeous coats that currently take up residence in my closet. Capes started infiltrating themselves slowly but surely, and this winter the amazing options available are jaw dropping. I may not be actively participating in fall fashions this year but I have a wish list of items I would scoop up if I was, and capes are at the top of that list.

When all of the days of the week end up turning into never-ending Mondays, the only option you have is to pull out the leather jacket and oxfords and hope the week ends more peacefully than it began. I have the worst dental anxiety, to the point where the majority of my dental work is now done under sedation. So you can imagine how thrilling it was to find out that not only had I cracked a tooth, but I had to have it removed and have a metal post inserted in its place. Without sedation because I’m pregnant, thankyouverymuch. Following the old adage about strength in numbers, I brought my blogging buddy and big brother to the appointment for moral support. I’m happy to report there were no tears, but I can’t report that the stress ball I held made it out in one piece.

Let the shopping begin! The little one inside of me is indeed a little girl, and we couldn’t be more thrilled. It’s interesting how much more real this experience became as soon as I found out the gender, and how much it’s helped in preparing for her arrival. I’m such a planner, and while I’ve learned you can’t control much in life, getting to prep some things, such as her nursery, has been so much fun. While we would have been thrilled with either a little guy or gal, there is something thrilling about expecting a daughter. I promise to share all the juicy decorating details as they start falling into place, but I think it’s obvious to say I’m starting with a consultation at Corea Sotropa.

When I discovered I was pregnant I immediately made a promise to myself that I would not fall into the category of ‘frumpy’ pregnancy style. I didn’t want to don muumuus that hid my shape or have my high heels confiscated from beneath my feet. But let me tell you, the struggle has been real. Because in all honesty, all I want to wear is sweat pants, baggy tees and no bra. All I seem to see on social media are these amazing pregnant ‘unicorns’, who have managed to gain weight only in their tummy, (which looks like me pre-pregnancy after a large lunch), they can still fit in the same pants they did before getting knocked up, and they have an entire wardrobe dedicated to this nine month stage of life. This is so not my situation. Everyday is like the Davinci Code to find something comfortable and chic to don. But you know what, every time I feel a little kick inside, I’m reminded to take it easy on myself, because I’m growing a human being, from scratch. So bear with me as we navigate these treacherous waters of pregnancy style together.
