Cape Love
My outerwear situation this winter is looking bleak, but I’m enthralled with the abundance of options of one of my favourite styles, the cape. Coloured, textured, long, short, pricey, or fabulously reasonable, there truly is something for everyone. I’ve collected some of my favourites, and perhaps it’s a good thing my maternity situation doesn’t allow me to fit into anything this year. Otherwise the cape section in my closet would be expanding tenfold.

Ghost Cake Pops
This past weekend marked the fifth anniversary of my annual Halloween Fright Nite. It’s become a tradition that I look forward to, carefully planning out my costume, polishing the winner’s trophy and diligently contemplating the menu. While the party is usually bustling with high RSVP numbers, this year there seemed to be a lot going on, so attendance was projected to be lower than usual. Instead of dwelling on how to keep the party going, I decided to take a different route, and this year planned out a Murder Mystery through Shot in the Dark Mysteries. It turned out to be a fabulous night of sleuthing and investigation, and was only enhanced by the delicious ghost cake pops, which were made using the fabulous Bakerella’s guide. Was it Colonel Mustard with the candlestick in the library, or was it Nurse White with the fire poker in the kitchen, I wish I could tell you but you’ll have just have to play for yourselves.

I have to apologize, I’ve been MIA from the blog the past couple of weeks, but for very good reason, I promise. Two weekends ago I was showered, literally, with love from my female friends and family from near and far in a ridiculously beautiful baby shower hosted by my Mom. I was spoiled silly, and I left feeling so incredibly loved and so blessed to have such amazing women in my life. I was even surprised by a couple of my closet friends from Vancouver, and I can’t even put into words how much the entire affair meant to me. It also left me thankful that a good number of my friends have children, because their wealth of knowledge is going to be invaluable in the upcoming 18 years.

Canadian Thanksgiving was this past weekend and it left me overwhelmed with how much I have to be thankful for. At the top of the very long list is by far my family and friends, and the continued and unrelenting support I receive from them. Life this year looks so different than it did at this time last year, and I’m continually amazed with how quickly time passes. It’s just a few short months before my life will be changing drastically again, and I’m embracing these last few weeks of adult freedom. If only I could cheers it with an ice cold glass of champagne…

There’s so many days that when I walk past the mirror and have to take a moment to process all the changes I’m seeing in front of me. It’s been challenging having to sit on the sidelines while hockey players old and young take to the ice, and it’s been even harder not to lace up my sneakers and go for a long run in this gorgeous weather we’ve been having. But then I remember, usually due to the current resident kicking me from the inside, that I’m growing a human being from scratch, and there’s no need to justify the weight gained or my new body shape.
