All Business

I had an amazing weekend that was filled with family and friends, hockey, a final long run and decorating for the holidays. This is easily my favorite time of year, with the holidays approaching and the festiveness of the city. Each night creeps up a bit earlier than the last, and I find myself hunkering down in the evenings in front of the fire. But during the day it’s all business for this little lady.
Gingerbread Latte Cupcakes
The holiday season is inching it’s way into my home, and I’m accepting it with open arms. Some people can be sensitive to the holiday season starting up too early, so in an effort to bridge the gap between both opinions (until December 1st hits) I found a fantastic treat that will satisfy everyone. In the cookbook Making Cupcakes with LOLA, I saw this recipe for Gingerbread Latte Cupcakes with Coffee Cinnamon Buttercream. While it could easily be upgraded to a holiday level baking project, it also serves as a fabulous fall dessert as is. I can’t explain to you just how delicious these little cakes were. But I did have to eat two three of them to get the tin foil wrapper looking just right in the final picture.
Tailored Casual

I’m comparing this week to the calm before the storm that will soon hit. It starts next weekend with a little marathon and follows that up with holiday parties, functions and festivities, projects big and small and a quick trip down to New York. I’ve been trying to be proactive and do as much prep work as possible so that I can enjoy the upcoming weeks instead of stressing out about how much there is to do. While I’m out running errands I’m doing so in an outfit that’s casual enough to hit up the grocery store, but tailored enough for a last minute meeting. It’s all about multitasking.
A Hint of Print
Tory Burch Blouse, American Apparel Leggings, Mason Coat (different color), Stuart Weitzman Boots, Agnelle Gloves, Toque from Germany, Miu Miu Handbag, Michael Kors Watch, CC Skye Cuff
I have the tendency to default to black in the winter months. It’s partly due to ease of wear, but mostly because it just feels right. To help jazz up my black ensemble, I try to pair it with prints that can range from fun and flirty to subtle and sophisticated. Having a pop of color on these cold days somehow makes them seem more bearable. So go ahead, get out of that ‘black’ rut and show a hint of print.
Patch Work
It seems as though there are certain small details in fashion that tend to get recycled and reworked and feel as though they’ve been around forever. Elbow patches fall into that category for me. When a dear friend was talking about her hunt for the perfect sweater with patches I confidently proclaimed that I had a solution for her. All you need to get started is a button down sweater, crew neck sweater, or blazer. There are a variety of materials that can be used to create the elbow patches such as leather, suede, or tweed. I used a sewing machine to secure the patches on the elbow, although you can sew it by hand using this guide or this type of stitch. I love the way it turned out and I’m already envisioning other items in my closet that could benefit from this little upgrade.
