Each year, when January 1st rolls around, I take the time to reflect on the past year. The highs, the lows, the ups and downs, what can stay and what must go.  I get the urge to clean out every single crevice of my home to have a sparkling slate to start fresh on.  2012 was filled with personal and professional achievements and growth, friends and family from near and far and the desire to push myself creatively and intellectually.  Here’s to a fabulous year to all of you, I thank you so much for taking the time to read this little blog of mine, and I promise you even more in 2013.

Wishing you all a very Merry Christmas and fabulous New Year.  I’ll be taking a few days off to enjoy the holidays with friends and family and can’t wait to share more wonderful posts with you soon.

There are certain items of clothing that you just know, the minute you purchase them they’ll exist in constant rotation in your closet.  I found this car coat in Seattle a couple of months back and I’ve literally worn it everywhere.  It’s the perfect combination of cozy and sophisticated. Hands down it’s the best travel piece I own, especially as it’s able to perform as a coat in a warmer climate, yet serve as a fabulous layering piece when the chill of winter hits.  I’m just waiting to throw it on at the end of a long ski day this holiday season, and look oh so chic in the chalet.

With the days before Christmas dwindling down, I spent the entire day yesterday in appointments and meetings.  I’ve been trying to get everything done before the weekend so that I can really take in time spent with family and friends.  Everything is coming together, all that’s missing is a snowfall on the day of.  That doesn’t seem like too much to ask for, now does it?

Last Christmas I traveled with my family to Germany and Austria to experience the infamous Christmas markets.  It was overwhelmingly magical, and I’m trying my best to recreate a little bit of that magic throughout the holiday season in Calgary.  One of the most consistent products at the Christmas markets is a mulled wine, known as gluhwein.  Each vendor’s product had its own unique taste, and each city has it’s own mugs in which this concoction is served.  I found this recipe for a homemade gluhwein, and it turned out beyond my expectations.   Now all I need is to fill my thermos, get bundled up and walk around the neighborhood admiring the lights.
