I purchased this lovely leather jacket last fall, and I just knew it would become a staple in my wardrobe.  I truly believe that a leather jacket is a fabulous investment piece that can be worn season after season and year after year.  The weather recently warmed up enough to temporarily put the parka on hold and pull out this fabulous little number.  I’m already beginning to picture how to style it come springtime.

The holidays have come and gone, but I always have a hard time giving up the gold, glitter and glamour of it all.  To try and extend the life, preferably year round, of these items, I tend to pair them with more casual components.  Hence a holiday-appropriate skirt can also been worn to dinner out with the girls when partnered up with a casual tee.  Go ahead ladies, make those nights out really sparkle.

I’m admittedly not much of a cook.  Instead my skill set lies more within baking.  I love the precision of baking, the decoration and final presentation, and most of all, the taste testing.  That was until I came across the Williams Sonoma book, Soup of the Day.  I never realized how easy, or utterly delicious, soup was.  I recently tried this Sweet Potato – Corn Chowder recipe, and it was not only incredibly healthy, but truly tasty too.

I always find this time of year to be a challenging fashion period in the city of Calgary.  All of the stores are clearing out the fall/winter goods and you start to see all the pretty florals, pastels and neons that are suggesting summer is right around the corner.  In Calgary however, it is not.  There are still a solid three months of winter left in this city.  Snow could fall any day, and the slush and muck seem to accumulate throughout the city exponentially.  Because of this winter slog, I try to incorporate touches of spring through layering.  While my cream, floral and pastel blouses may not read well on their own, pairing them with a more wintery sweater creates a fabulous alternative.   Hurry up spring, hurry up.

Each year, when January 1st rolls around, I take the time to reflect on the past year. The highs, the lows, the ups and downs, what can stay and what must go.  I get the urge to clean out every single crevice of my home to have a sparkling slate to start fresh on.  2012 was filled with personal and professional achievements and growth, friends and family from near and far and the desire to push myself creatively and intellectually.  Here’s to a fabulous year to all of you, I thank you so much for taking the time to read this little blog of mine, and I promise you even more in 2013.
