Macaroni with Four Cheeses
On a frosty winter’s day in Calgary there’s only one thing a gal can do to keep warm, and it’s called mac and cheese. I have to admit that there are few other things that I take as seriously as a delicious dish of macaroni and cheese. One of my nearest and dearest of friends introduced me to this recipe, and it has hands down become my favorite dish to make in the winter months. Using four different kinds of cheeses, a fun shaped noodle (a must) and crisp breadcrumbs to top it off, I promise you won’t be disappointed. The best part about making this dish during the chilly months of the year is that there’s still plenty of time to get bikini ready after you polish off a plate or three two.
Scarf Solutions
I absolutely love scarves. I love the way they’re able to add a new dimension to your outfit, all the while maintaining the practical aspect of keeping you warm. Recently though, I was finding that my scarves were looking more accessory road kill than accessory chic. I came across an over-the-door three-tiered towel rack that solved all my problems. It was incredibly inexpensive, I didn’t have to drill any holes, hammer in any nails or build any shelves. I can now see all of my scarves hanging neatly, patiently waiting their turn. They’re no longer collecting dust and I’m reaching for them so much more often. I guess I’d say, problem solved.
A Bit of Blue
Alice + Olivia Blouse, Alice + Olivia Skirt, Maison Scotch Coat, Spanx Tights, Burberry Booties (similar here), Alexander Wang Handbag, Chanel Watch, Charriol Bracelet, Tiffany Necklace, Tiffany Earrings
This time of year is always great for picking up fall merchandise that you’ve been drooling over all season, but decided you’d rather eat than get that pair of boots. I’m always able to scoop up a pair of incredible boots, or in the case of this season, a beautiful cobalt coat. I’ve already been able to pair it with so many outfits, and every time I wear it, I can’t help but feel incredible knowing I didn’t pay full price.
New York Style Crumb Cake
The weather has been icy at best here in Calgary, and what I seem to be craving most are warm baked goods. I recently bought the book Baked Explorations and decided to give the New York Style Crumb Cake an honest effort. Having a slice fresh out of the oven beside the roaring fire was a serious slice of heaven. The best thing about a solid crumb cake is that you can literally eat it any time of day. Over a cup of coffee in the morning, alongside gossip with a girlfriend in the afternoon, or á la mode after dinner. What better rationalization does one need for baking a cake?
Stars and Stripes

There’s something so classic about a striped sweater, especially when done in black and white. It seems so clean, crisp and filled with confidence. I decided to add a little flair to my ensemble with a star print blouse. Layered underneath my striped sweater was just what the stylist ordered. While these layered pieces look great paired with denim, I think they would look fabulous with a skirt once with weather warms up.
